Hooters, a U.S.-based restaurant chain known for its attractive waitresses, is planning to expand to Turkey, India and Japan, the Wall Street Journal has reported.
In an expansion plan announced Thursday, Hooters said it aims to increase its new restaurant locations by 15 percent to 20 percent annually for the next several years.
“Hooters is expanding as the number of U.S. restaurants overall is shrinking amid high unemployment and a sluggish economy,” the Wall Street Journal reported Friday. “According to a recent report by market research company NPD Group, roughly 5,000 restaurants, or 1 percent, closed this spring compared to the same period last year.”
The Hooters chain has more than 455 restaurants worldwide in 29 foreign countries. The company hired Colliers International to identify new locations and negotiate lease agreements, according to the newspaper.
“The goal is to double the footprint over the next five years,” said Patrick Duffy, chairman of Colliers Retail Services Group. He said the Hooters concept has been “transportable” overseas.
Hooters said its ideal locations range between 3,000 and 5,000 square feet and “typically boast retail, office, hotel, tourism, festival, urban and industrial traffic drivers.”

All people would call this a miracle! An elderly woman was rescued from the rubble of buildings in Port-au-Prince, Haiti's capital. Though the woman had a full week due to trapped debris that a devastating earthquake rocked the country's poor.
The rescue workers cheered when a woman named Anna Zizi was pulled out of the ruins of the Roman Catholic cathedral building. Even when he was appointed, 69-year-old woman was still time-sempatnya singing.
"It's amazing, nobody could believe she was still alive," says Sarah Wilson of the British humanitarian organization, Christian Aid, as quoted by news agency AFP on Wednesday (20/1/2010).
